How to deploy Report in SSRS

  1. How to deploy Report in SSRS

    Hi,

I have a project having rdl and rds files. How do i deploy it ? is it
    through report manager ?
I was trying http://XXXXX/ReportServer is this correct ?

Where are the reports saved ? Are they saved in a reporting server ?
is the reporting server is a sql server or a web server ?

    Thanks,
    Rajeev

You have to have Reporting Services installed someplace. Reporting Services
is part of the SQL Server family. For SQL 2005 and 2008 it is part of the
SQL Server installation process. It is an asp.net application. For RS 2005
it uses IIS. For RS 2008 it is no longer dependent on IIS. You can deploy
report by report using Report Manager. Most people use the Reporting
Services project to deploy to Report Server. Right mouse click on the
project, properties. Set the targetserverurl to
    http://servername/ReportServer

You must have rights to deploy. If you are part of the local administrators
group on the box running RS then you will have rights to deploy. Otherwise
someone needs to add you to the appropriate role in RS to allow you to
    deploy.

RS uses two databases for its meta data and object caching. The rdl is put
into the database. No rdl files exist on the server.

It is a existing report which i want to deploy after making changes.

I access the production copy using the link
    http://pchissq0102v/Reportserver$MSRPTPRD/Pages/Reportviewer.aspx?%....

is pchissql0102c my report server and i have to deploy the report
    there ?

When i open http://pchissq0102v/Reportserver/ it gives me page not
found. is this the permission issue or something else ?

    Thanks,
    Rajeev

  4. Re: How to deploy Report in SSRS

Reporting Services consists of two websites: reportserver and reports.
Reports is the portal called Report Manager that ships with Reporting
Services. To get to Report Manager you should be using a URL like this:
    http://pchissq0102v/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx

Or perhaps since it is not installed in a default instance:
    http://pchissq0102v/Reports$MSRPTPRD/Pages/Folder.aspx

I'm not sure because I don't have to give the instance name in my
configuration since I am installed in the default instance.

If you go to one of the above and you are not seeing folders at a minimum
then you do not have the necessary rights. Note, this IS NOT file system
rights. People get confused about this. RS has its own role based security.
It has a variety of roles. You need to have one of two things occur. If your
user is put into the local administrators group on the server running
Reporting Services then you automatically get put into the Role that allows
administering RS. Otherwise you need to have someone add you to the
    appropriate role in RS.

Now, you if you can few the folders and run reports then you have the
minimum Role access that at least allows that. But you do not necessarily
have rights to deploy a report.

This URL is what is used if you are embedding a URL into a web page or using
jump to url in a report and are trying to run a particular report.
    http://pchissq0102v/Reportserver$MSRPTPRD/Pages/Reportviewer.aspx?

You can deploy (if you have rights) directly from the development
environment. As I said below. In your case you would set the targetserver to
    http://pchissq0102v/Reportserver$MSRPTPRD

But, I suggest first going to report manager and see if you can get in. If
you can go to the appropriate folder, click on the report, select properties
tab. Click on the Update link under report definition.

I bet though that you are not in the proper role.
